TEN-YEAR-OLD Ella Peters from Cleveland won four gold medals and broke the 1982 Queensland high jump record at the state championships at the weekend.
Ella, a year five student at Ormiston College, represented the Met East region at the Queensland Primary School State Athletic Championships.
She won gold in the 100m, 200m, long jump and high jump.
She jumped 1.44m in the high jump to break the 1982 Queensland high jump record.
Ella said she was most nervous about the 200m event, which is her favourite, because she was up against some very stiff competition.
“I felt really excited to win and to break the Queensland record.”
Ella used to play touch, but said she is now focused on athletics and trained six days a week.
In September Ella won five gold medals and broke four records during the regional competition to qualify for the Met East team.
Ella’s mother, Miriam Peters said her daughter actually broke six records if you include breaking her own record from the heats.
Ella will represent Queensland at the national championships in Canberra from December 4 to 8.
“I am excited about going to the nationals and really hope that I do well,” she said.
