TRIBUTE: Scott “Buddy” Cameron.Fans of ‘50s and 60’s rock ‘n’ roll are in for a treat when Buddy: In Concert comes to Cessnock Performing Arts Centre on Friday, October 23.
Starring Scott “Buddy” Cameron, this two-hour journey through music will have audiences up on their feet and singing along to some of the best hits of last century.
The show starts would with a jukebox section, with all of the music that inspired Buddy Holly to become the musical phenomenon that he was.
After a brief intermission, Cameron then focuses on the hits we know and love made famous by Holly himself.
Portraying Holly is second nature to Cameron, something he has developed over the last 10 years of performing.
He was a guitarist at the time and dreamed of doing his own show when he found an advertisement for auditions for a Buddy Holly show in the newspaper.
“It was one of those things that just kind of happened,” Cameron said.
“He was someone I always looked up to as a kid.
“It was a natural fit for me.”
Over the years Cameron has met some of Holly’s close family and friends including Peggy Sue and has gotten to know the man he idolised as a child.
One of the biggest things he has learnt though is the similarities between himself and Holly, and has realised he doesn’t need to act as much to be Holly on stage.
“I’ve ended up walking on stage, putting the glasses on and just being myself,” he said.
“I’ve got the easiest job in the world.”
This show is going back to the roots, with just Buddy and the Crickets taking the stage to show the audience the music behind the man.
“You’ll leave the show learning all about Holly but having a great time,” Cameron said.
So get ready for a night of fun, singing and dancing in a show you won’t be able to sit still through.
