KEY OUTS: Kooringal Colts co-coaches Andrew Dutton (left) and Dave Bolton will both be missing for Saturday’s match against South Wagga.REIGNING premiers Kooringal Colts will be without star all-rounder Dave Bolton when they look to bring up their maiden win of the season against South Wagga on Saturday.
Both of Colts co-coaches in Bolton and Andrew Dutton will be unavailable for the replay of last year’s grand final at McPherson Oval.
Colts have narrowly gone down in their opening two matches, while South Wagga are undefeated after two scratchy victories.
Kooringal Colts captain Keenan Hanigan said it was time for his team to stand up without the reliance on Bolton.
“Our batting is where we need to improve, we’re relying on Dave Bolton to score our runs too much,” Hanigan said.
“We expect him to do it all and it’s not fair on him.
“As a team we should be helping him out.
“We’ve been 20 runs short of our target that we’ve set at the start of the day in both weeks and it’s cost us the win.
“We’ve got to start helping Dave out.”
There will be no Bolton to rely on against the Blues.
Bolton, Dutton and Ben Tett will all be missing for Colts as Brendan O’Reilly, Ray Stephens and Callan Taylor come in.
Hanigan said as much as it hasnot been an ideal start to the year, he is not hitting the panic button just yet.
“We haven’t been playing great cricket,” he said.
“If you look at the positives, we haven’t been playing great cricket but we’re only just losing.
“There is plenty of improvement to come so I’m not too stressed at this stage.”
Hanigan said Colts will take confidence from previous results against South Wagga, most notably, last year’s grand final.
“Obviously they’re two from two, they made the grand final last year and they’ve always got a good team,” he said.
“We’ve got a couple of outs this week, so that gives an opportunity for a a couple of guys to step up.
“We take a bit of confidence out of past South Wagga games, beating them last year, and the last few years we’ve played alright against them.
“It’s a big game for us, with a few out but we’re looking forward to it.
“We need to get a win and it starts this week.”
South Wagga, on the other hand, will welcome back a number of key players.
Grant Forrest will come in for his first match of the season, while Luke Gerhard returns after missing last week’s win over Wagga RSL.
After top scoring for the Blues with 39 last week, Rob Harper has been named in second grade, while Dylan Martin is unavailable.
After being dismissed for 125 and 118 in the opening two rounds, South Wagga will be looking for an improved performance with the bat against Colts.
