LOGAN THRILLER: Author Drew Grozier has launched a new crime thriller set in Logan. LONDON has Sherlock Holmes, Edinburgh has John Rebus and now Logan has Nugura Tjarawee.
The protagonist of new Logan crime thrillerTedde and the Serial Killerofficially joined the ranks of the literary detectives this month.
Tedde and the Serial Killerwaslaunched in West End on Wednesday night.
Logan author Drew Grozier, who hails from Scotland,said his latest novel would put Logan on the map.
The Meadowbrook mansaidthemurder mystery was written to draw readers in, whilehis main character was designed to inspire youth.
“I wrote the woman as someone that Aboriginal teenagers could look at and inspire to,” he said.
“Tedde is aboriginal female detective who believes there’s serial killer in Logan City.
“Nobody else believes her and she may be sleeping with a killer, that’s where the mystery comes in.”
The novel, which centres around the Logan suburbs of Woodridge, Loganlea and Meadowbrook (Meadowbank in the novel)is Mr Grozier’s fourth published book.
It is hissecond Australian-based text after his 2010 memoirScotch on the Bitumen –a-non fiction piece on his travels up and down the New England Highway.
Mr Groziersaid he and partner AnneSantangeli, who edited the novel, had been working onTedde and the Serial Killersince 2013.
For Mr Grozier, who is battling terminal cancer, writing is a kind of therapy.
After initially being diagnosed in 1995, Mr Grozierleft a job at Honeywell Limited Australia and started his writing career in Paris.
By 2005 he was told he had just months to live, so travelled home to Scotland where his first two books,The Umbrella CompanyandBlood Heritagewere published.
Mr Grozier went into remission in Scotland, but has not remained cancer free.
“I was told in January that I would be dead by Christmas,” he said.
“That prognosis still stands… but I am feeling on top of the world.”
Mr Grozier said he hopedTedde and the Serial Killerwas one Loganreaders“could relate to”.
“The reception (of readers) has been very good,” he said.
Healready has a sequelin mind.
“I always write the last chapter first, so I know where I am going,” he said.
