The Australian Wind Alliance organised the forum at Portland Arts Centre with former Glenelg Shire mayor Frank Ziegler as compare.

Nine candidates took part in the debate with more than 60 people in attendance. Australian Christians candidate Lillian Len did not attend and independent candidate Swampy Marsh sent his apologies.

Australian Wind Alliance south west organiser Angela McFeeterssaid investment in renewable energy was a key topic of discussion on Wednesday night.

“Two candidates backed Victoria having its own renewable energy target- Thomas Campbell (Greens) and Roy Reekie (independent),” Ms McFeeters said.

“Both Pete Smith (independent Liberal) and Michael Neoh (National Party) expressed support for a renewable energy research centre to be built in Portland.”
