The Great Australian Bird Count is winding up this weekend with the community-driven avian census coming to an end.
The count, organised by Birdlife Australia, aims to provide a rough census of the bird life present in neighbourhoods across Australia–according to the people who live there.
These results can then be compared with factsfrom previous years to see how species are shifting.
While the methodology may appear somewhat ad-hoc, it is good enough to be used for comparisons as the same methods are used each year the count is performed.
