Waratah Championship League guard Cameron Day and Youth League forward Sean Weekes are both members of Western Sydney University, which lost to Macquarie University in an all-NSW grand final.
Western Sydney Uni was undefeated leading into the grand final and were buoyed by the knowledge they had won their previous encounter with their fellow-NSW University earlier this year – conquering them in the grand final of the Eastern University Games.
This grand final would not however follow that scenario, with Western Sydney weakened by the absence of NBL point guard Ben Kearins, who was on duties with the Sydney Kings.
Macquarie took full advantage, controlling the grand final to score an 65-47 win.
Western Sydney’s earlier results were all wins, including 63-44 over University of Western Australia, 76-25 over Murdoch University, 57-42 over University of Technology Sydney, 60-43 over University of Newcastle, Quarter Final 50-39 over Swinburne University of Technology, Semi-Final 51-38 over Deakin University.
