Representing Australia is the next thing to tick off the to do list for theOztag championship winning U/14 Illawarra Coastal Vipers’ players.
The side made up of Shellharbour and Wollongong players defied the odds to win the 2015 Oztag National Championships held in Coffs Harbour last weekend.
The Vipers were trailing 3-1 at half-time in the October 18 grand final to championshipfavourites Wests Tigers and looked to have run their race.
But a motivational talk from coaches Luke Raduva and Jason Reid at the break did the trick and the boys rallied to prevail 4-3 and be crowned U/14 National Oztag Champions.
Jackson Haynes scored the winning try in the dying stages. Jayden Sullivan, Noah Jones and Liam Vane-Tempest also scored tries for the Vipers.
Proud parent Tracy Devlin said the team played remarkably well throughout the three-day carnival.
It was a great championship for Illawarra, with four Vipers’ teamsmaking it through to the grand-final.
