THELeeton Junior Cricket Association is gearing up for the 2015/16 season by hosting a T20 Blast come and try evening tonight.
The T20 Blast is a Cricket Australia program that introduces kids to match play cricket.LJCA Milo In2 Cricket co-ordinator and Murrumbidgee development officer, David Tiffin, said the program wasthe next stage of progression for young players.
“The T20 Blast involves small sided teams playing on smaller fields, the gaps are larger and kids rotate activities to get an equal opportunity at all aspects of the game,” he said.
The T20 Blast has replaced the traditional under10s competition.Milo In2Cricket under 8s and the T20 Blast competitions will both be played on Friday nights at the LHS ovals.The association also organises a competition for the older children on a Saturday morning.
“The under12/14s age division is the stepping stone to proper cricket for these kids and they begin to learn the skills of concentration, leadership and organisation, not just slogging a ball or bowling fast,” Tiffin said.
With the association going to online registrations this year there has been less reliance on the traditional signup days, but parents are encouraged to sign their child up by October 24.
